Visioning survey

A visioning survey to support the review of the Far North Queensland Regional Plan was open for the public to provide inputs since early August 2023. Over 70 responses were received and reviewed. This survey is now closed.

These survey results have provided key insights into the public’s perspective of what the regional vision should look like for Far North Queensland. These results indicated the following should be considered as part of the regional vision:

  • Support the protection of natural assets, regional landscapes and biodiversity values across the region.
  • Encourage the retention of people through job opportunities (including young people).
  • Foster a climate resilient, sustainable and prosperous region, built on a regenerative economy and strong communities.
  • Support tropical neighbourhoods that are responsive to increased temperatures and urban heat impacts and reflects the needs of the community.
  • Focus urban growth around existing settlement areas with a compact urban form and higher densities to minimise impacts on natural areas and agricultural lands, while ensuring more efficient use of existing infrastructure.
  • Build the economy on existing industries in agriculture, tourism, aviation and marine sectors and acts as a knowledge hub for tropical expertise and innovation.
  • Reflect the traditions and customs of First Nations including maintain a connection to Country.

Thank you to those who have contributed and participated in this survey. We encourage you to subscribe to our departmental updates to stay informed of updates relating to future opportunities where you can have your say.
